Certificate in Continuing Education
Chalmers Institute offers a Certificate as a way to encourage and acknowledge the learning and credit work done by continuing education registrants.
The certificate can be granted for either general studies or in an area of specialization.
General Studies Certificate is offered to people who successfully complete the credit work for 15 credit hours in any mix of disciplines. These courses include the successful completion of evaluative work. Three (3) credit hours may be transferred into the Chalmers Certificate from the Native Ministries Consortium Summer School.
Specialization Certificate is offered to people who successfully complete the credit work for 15 credit hours, 9 credit hours of which must be taken in the areas of specialization noted below. These courses include the successful completion of evaluative work. Three (3) credit hours may be transferred into the Chalmers Certificate from the Native Ministries Consortium Summer School.
Details regarding evaluative work, and the extent thereof, are available from the Registrar (registrar@vst.edu).
| Specialization | Credit-designation codes | |
| Biblical Studies | (HB) Hebrew Bible, (NT) New Testament | |
| Christian Spirituality | (SP) Spirituality | |
| Ministry Studies | (PT) Pastoral Theology, (LS) Liturgical Studies, (ED) Education | |
| Theological Studies | (TH) Theology, (HIS) History, (ETH) Ethics |
The certificate is not a certification of competence in the disciplines but recognition of the completion of the requirements of the programs.
There is no application process to participate in the certificate; however, in addition to the appropriate tuition fee, there is a one-term Student Services Fee of $45. Participation occurs simply by indicating on the Registration Form (page 19) that the course is being taken for Continuing Education Credit.
When the 15 credit hours have been completed, the applicant must participate in a brief consultation with the Director of VST’s Chalmers Institute to confirm the student course record. An administrative fee of $75. is required to receive the certificate, which will be awarded during Summer School the year following the successful completion of the requirements.
Please note: Only courses taken during and after the Summer program of 2001 may be applied to the Certificate. All course work for a Certificate must be completed within an 8-year framework.
