Full course syllabus
In this rare seminar we will reflect together on where this past generation of Christian contemplative renewal has led the Church, and what it may hold in store for the future. Exploration of the nuances of Centering Prayer will be combined with reflection that may include concepts as neuro-meditation, the InterSpiritual movement, unitive awareness, and the re-emergence into public awareness of the Unitive or Wisdom Jesus.
Father Thomas Keating, of St. Benedict’s Monastery, Snowmass, Colorado
is a Trappist monk and founder of the Contemplative Outreach in Snowmass, Colorado. Father Keating has developed a conceptual background for Centering Prayer bringing together the Christian contemplative tradition with insights from contemporary psychology. His books include, Open Mind, Open Heart, The Mystery of Christ, Invitation to Love, Intimacy with God, The Human Condition, The Better Part, and the Fruits and Gifts of the Spirit, Manifesting God.
Cynthia Bourgeault has worked with Fr. Keating for 15 years as student, editor, and collaborator. TopDancing a Theology of Leadership
Dr. Celeste Snowber
1:30-4:30pm
Full course syllabus
We teach, minister and lead with our whole selves, and with bodies able to speak and inspire. This course is practical in nature, a visceral theology, or a kinesthetic exegesis, where we engage the body as a place of knowledge and wisdom. Integrating creative movement, dance, voice, the Psalms, and writing, we will connect our inner and outer worlds, and inform our vocations. Movement novices welcomed.
Celeste Snowber is Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University. Focused in the area of spirituality, the body and arts, she is a dancer, and author of Embodied Prayer, and other articles, essays and poetry.

TopOceans of Becoming; Deserts of Life: Voyaging in the Celtic Tradition
Dr Jonathan Wooding
1:30-4:30 pm
Full course syllabus
This course in Celtic theology will explore the idea of life as a peregrinatio from the early Greek accounts of Celtic cosmology, through the ‘Spirituality of Exodus’ in the early church, and into the Celtic tradition of monastic voyage tales. We will reflect on the contemporary meaning of the voyage idea through the twentieth-century interpretations of the St. Brendan story by Thomas Merton, C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien.
Jonathan Wooding is the Director of the Centre for the Study of Religion in Celtic Societies at University of Wales Lampeter. He has published widely on religious travel, the Voyage of St. Brendan, and tales concerning the Celtic ‘otherworld’.
