Canadian Studies Certificate program
Vancouver School of Theology and Shizuoka Eiwa
Gakuin University
and College have entered into a partnership
program to mutually
deepen understanding of Japanese and Canadian Christianity, culture,
history, and society. Since
1994, approximately
17 Japanese students each year have come from Shizuoka
Eiwa Gakuin University and College to Vancouver School of
Theology
for four, seven or nine month programs to complete studies
that are counted for credit at their home college. A two week
non-credit English intensive is also offered in September of
each year.
The Eiwa students live with Canadian families on the Westside
of Vancouver and become members of those families, while immersing
themselves in English and culture. Four VST instructors teach
exclusively in this program such courses as Biblical Studies,
liturgy, Cross-Cultural Studies, Canadian history and culture,
English, TOEIC, and computer skills.
In addition to their academic programs, there are numerous extra-curricular
activities, such as field trips to Nootka Sound, Fort Langley and
Victoria, volunteer work, recreational activities, and a cross-Canada
study tour, all of which are designed to foster a deeper and broader
understanding of Canadian culture.
