Somerville House Residence opened December 1, 2004 and consists of 38 suites. All suites are furnished and have wall-to wall carpeting with linoleum in the kitchen, bathroom and entrance areas. Four of the suites are disabled-accessible. Monthly fees includes heat, water, electricity, high speed internet, and cablevision. All facilities are non-smoking and no pets are allowed.
Important
Notes
• VST theological students will be given first
priority in apartment housing assignments.
• Ongoing construction projects in the VST neighbourhood may create noise
and other disruptions in the residence.
• Assignment contracts will be sent out frommid April onwards.
Payment of the first month's rent and a security deposit equal to
1⁄2
a month's rent are due upon housing acceptance. As well, students
accepting assignment to apartment accommodation must agree to live
by the terms
outlined in the VST
Residents' Manual, available from the Housing Office.

Furniture and appliances
Major furniture and kitchen appliances are provided for each apartment
but residents are expected to bring their own bedding, towels, pots and
pans, dishes, cleaning equipment and supplies. There are no microwave
ovens, dishwashers or wireless internet service in the suites. Housekeeping
service is not provided to the apartments but is provided to the common
areas and lounges.
Amenities
Somerville House has several furnished common use lounges including a
large lounge and small TV lounge on the first floor and a fireplace lounge,
full sized kitchen and dining area on the 4th floor. There are coin-operated
laundry rooms on the ground and fourth floors. There is an elevator in
the entrance lobby with access to the basement and 4th floor studio apartments.
Individual locked mailboxes are located at the entry lobby. Please note
that there is no storage area for Somerville residents. Personal furniture
may be brought into each suite but residents must provide their own temporary
storage for furniture if it is moved, must return all items and are responsible
for all damages.
Parking
There are 20 underground paid parking spaces available. Due to lack
of space there is no visitor parking.

Description of Apartment Types in Somerville House

There are 5 furnished suites that will be available in VST's main building for 2007-08 - 4 one bedroom suites and 1 two bedroom suite.
These suites are similar to the suites in Somerville House with the following exceptions:
* 1-bedroom Iona suites DO NOT have a full kitchen but rather have cooking facilities are per the Somerville Studio apartments (residents will have access to a communal kitchen in the Iona Building)To apply for a one bedroom suite, select 'Iona Building - 1 Bedroom' when completing the application form. To apply for the two bedroom suite, select 'Somerville House - 2 Bedroom' and indicate your preference for the Iona 2 bedroom in the 'Other Information' section.
* Suites in the Iona Building DO have access to the UBC Campus-wide Wireless network
Quad Suites - 1,194 sq ft (approx)
There are 6 furnished, carpeted, three-storey townhouses with ground level entry and patio; each with 4 single bedrooms.
The living room/dining room has a two-seater sofa, two easy chairs, cabinet, desk and chair, small bookshelf, dining table and 6 chairs. There is a storage cubbyhole under the stairs. The kitchen has a fridge, four burner stove, oven, sink and cupboards. The second floor has two bedrooms and a shared bathroom with tub/shower. The third floor also has two bedrooms; each with outside balcony. The bathroom features a corner shower. Each privately locking bedroom has a single sized "captain's bed" with 3 storage drawers underneath, desk, chair and small bookshelf, easy chair, lamp, closet with storage shelf.
Eligibility
Single applicants who are 20 years or older. Residents must maintain registered student status with UBC or another neighbouring educational institution. The quad apartments will be designated based on gender.
Studio
Suites - 260 sq ft (approx)
There are 19 furnished, carpeted, self-contained studio apartments;
18 on the 4th floor, and one suite on the ground floor level. Three
of
the
suites are larger studios, which are disabled-accessible including
special fittings for the bathroom and shower. There is an elevator
to the 4th floor studio apartments.
Each suite has a double-sized "captain's bed" with
three storage drawers, bedside table, lamp, desk and chair with
small bookshelf, easy chair, closet with storage shelf. The small kitchen has
an under counter fridge, two burner hot plate, sink and cupboards.
There is no oven or microwave oven. There is a dining table with
2 chairs. The bathroom includes a corner shower. Studio residents
have access to
the 4th floor communal kitchen, which has a standing freezer and
microwave oven.
Eligibility
Single applicants who are 20 years or older. Residents
must maintain registered student status with VST, UBC or another
neighbouring
educational institution.

One
Bedroom Suites - 708 sq ft (approx)
There are 3 furnished, carpeted, one-bedroom suites with ground
level entry and patio.
The living room/dining room has two armchairs,
side table and lamp, dining table and three chairs, desk and chair,
bookshelf, closet
with storage shelf. The kitchen has a fridge, four burner stove
and oven, sink and cupboards. There is no dishwasher or microwave.
The bedroom has
a double "captain's bed" with three storage drawers
underneath, easy chair, desk and chair, bedside table and lamp,
closet with
storage
shelf, storage console. The bathroom includes a tub with shower.
Eligibility
Couples (no children) who are 20 years or older. Residents
must maintain registered student status with VST, UBC or another
neighbouring
educational institution.
Two
Bedroom Suites - 788 sq ft (approx)
There are 6 furnished and carpeted two- bedroom suites. 5 suites
consist of two storey and enter by an outside staircase to the
second floor with
bedrooms on the third floor. One suite is on the ground floor with
bedrooms on the same floor.
The living room/dining room has a sofa, armchair,
coffee table, end table and lamp, console cabinet, dining table
and 4 chairs,
bookshelf and closet with storage shelf. The 2 storey suites have
a storage cupboard under the stairs. The kitchen has
a 4-burner stove, oven, fridge, sink and cupboards. The bedrooms each
have a single "twin"-sized "captain's bed" with
3 storage drawers underneath, bedside table and lamp, desk with
small
bookshelf, easy chair and closet with storage shelf.
Eligibility
Single adults 20 years or older or a couple with one dependant. Residents
must maintain registered student status with VST, UBC or another
neighbouring educational institutiation.

Three
Bedroom Suites - 1,145 sq ft (approx)
There are 3 furnished, carpeted, three-bedroom, 2 story suites
which enter on the second floor by an outside staircase and patio.
The living room/dining room has a sofa, 2 armchairs,
coffee table, side tables, lamp, desk and chair, bookcase and console
cabinet. In two of the suites there is a dining table with 6 chairs
and
in one suite the dining table has 4 chairs. The kitchen has
a 4-burner stove and oven, fridge, sink and cupboards. There is
a storage area under the staircase.
The Master bedroom has a double sized "captain's
bed" with 3 storage drawers under the ensuite bathroom with either
a tub/shower or corner shower. The two smaller bedrooms have a twin- sized
"captain's bed" with drawers and share a bathroom with either
a tub/shower or corner shower.
Eligibility
A couple with children. Residents
must maintain registered student status with VST, UBC or another
neighbouring educational institution.
