Friends of VST: The Auxiliary Reborn
The last meeting of the VST Auxiliary, held March 26, 2009, was both a joyous and poignant occasion! Members celebrated and said goodbye to their beloved organization with its history of over one hundred years. Marilyn Harrison traced the history of the various auxiliaries from 1908-2009 who came together in 1971 to form the
Auxiliary to Vancouver School of Theology. Through the past year a great deal of thought and planning had gone into making a new beginning, and the Auxiliary was able to approve unanimously the constitution of a new body and to launch a new group called
The Friends of VST.
Through a network of Friends, the intention shall be:
• to support the work of Vancouver School of Theology,
• to provide programs of interest to members of the Friends of VST, and
• to promote relationship and understanding among ecumenical and inter-religious partners.
Membership shall be persons and groups interested in the advancement of the work of Vancouver School of Theology.
Chancellor Louise Rolston serves as the first president of the group with the help of an initial Advisory Panel consisting of Kay Furniss, Shirley Pearson, Audrey Halsey, and Conrad Guelke. Beth McIntosh retains her role as Corresponding Secretary, and would appreciate hearing from members who wish her to send out cards of congratulations and support on behalf of the Friends.
There is enthusiasm in the School at the birth of this new group of Friends of the School and we invite you to join us in this new venture of companionship, learning and support. If you wish to become a member of The Friends of VST, and to receive notices of events, please call Ruth in the Development Office at 604-822-0245.
