VST’s Distinguished Theologian in Residence, Dr. Sallie McFague, has recently returned from a trip to India, where she was invited to participate in a summit with the Dalai Lama, entitled ‘Ecology, Ethics and Interdependence’. This conference addressed issues of how to move beyond acknowledgement of climate change as a reality of our modern predicament, to action. Dr. McFague has written numerous books and articles on this subject, and her participation in this conference was an important affirmation of the vital contribution that she has made and continues to make in this field.
Dr. McFague was accompanied on her trip by Rev. Janet Gear, VST’s Assistant Professor of Public and Pastoral Leadership, and the Director of Denominational Formation (United Church of Canada).
Both Dr. McFague and Rev. Gear will be interviewed at length for an article regarding their experiences at this summit, to appear in the upcoming edition of ‘Perspectives’. Look for this issue towards the beginning of December.
