During the summer (May – August), apartments in Somerville House are available to the public to book. Somerville House offers accommodation to mature individuals who are attending classes, workshops, conferences, or retreats on the UBC campus.
Security Deposit
For a stay of 30 days or more: a security deposit equal to 1⁄2 a month’s rent is due when the reservation is made. A credit card is required to make a reservation.
For a stay of 7 – 30 days: a security deposit equal to 1⁄2 a week’s rent is due when the reservation is made. A credit card is required to make a reservation.
Charges for damage or missing items, and cleaning required by VST staff, will be deducted from the security deposit. VST may also apply the security deposit to any rent or outstanding charge of the guest’s occupancy of the unit.
The security deposit shall be returned to the guest within 14 days of the guest’s departure less any deductions made by VST. If the security deposit is not enough to cover the cost of cleaning/damage, the extra will be charged to the guest’s credit card.
Cancellation Policy
For a stay of 30 days or more: 30 days notice of cancellation is required. The security deposit is non-refundable if this notice is not given.
For a stay of 7 – 30 days: 14 days notice of cancellation is required. The security deposit is non-refundable If this notice is not given.
Payment
The balance due on the reservation will be processed on arrival, or on Friday for weekend check-ins, using the credit card that was provided for the reservation, unless other arrangements are made in advance. We accept VISA, MasterCard, debit, or exact cash in Canadian currency.
Check-in
Begins at 3:00 PM. The check-in instructions will be included in the reservation confirmation email.
Check-out
Check-out time is 10:00 AM. Instructions for cleaning and returning keys prior to departure are provided to each guest.
Housekeeping
No housekeeping services are provided during the guest’s stay. Guests are responsible for cleaning their own apartments.
We provide one set of bed linens for each room. Guests are expected to bring their own towels, soap, shampoo and toilet paper.
No cooking utensils, dishes and cutlery are provided.
Cablevision/ Internet
Cablevision is provided. However, a TV is not included.
High-speed internet is available (wireless internet is unstable). Guests will need to bring or buy an ethernet cable.
Laundry
Coin-operated laundry machines are located on the main and 4th floors.
Smoking Policy
Smoking is not permitted in the building. Guests who smoke will be charged an additional amount.
Pets
Pets are not permitted with the exception of certified service dogs for the disabled.
