Basic Rate (Diploma, MDiv, MATS, GDSD): $240 per credit hour
Advanced Rate (ThM): $353 per credit hour

Budget approximately $200 per course for books

PhD: The following are the 2009-10 rates, subject to change:
Full time (2 years): $16,740/year; $1,500 continuance

Student Fees

VST Students’ Association: $20 per term (Summer/Fall/Spring)

AMS membership: Full time $99.00/ Part time $81.50
Health and Dental Plan: Full Year $216.31/ Jan-Aug $144.20
UPass: $107 per term (unchanged from 2008-09)

PLEASE NOTE: A $700 Tuition and Fees deposit is due by September 1st to cover student fees and the first part of tuition owing for the 2009-10 academic year. The remainder of Tuition is due in the 4th week of each term.

Sample Budget for Living Expenses

Bachelor/studio suites: $550 – $800+ per month
1-bedroom basement/garden level suite: $650 – $950+ per month
1-bedroom apartment: $2000 – $1150+ per month
2-bedroom basement/garden level suite: $850 – $1150+ per month
2-bedroom apartment: $900 – $2000+ per month
Room in shared suite, apartment, or house: $450 – $750+ per month
Room in house with kitchen privileges: $400 – $600+ per month
Room and Board: $600 – $800+ per month
Furnished/unfurnished house: $1700 – $3300+ per month

Utilities (electricity and gas, if not already included in the price of rent):
Electric: $30 – $50 per month
Gas: $30 – $50 per month
Telephone, basic service (includes unlimited local calls, long distance extra): $45 approx. per month
Internet: $30 per month
Food: $200 – $250 per month for singles, $250 – $500 per month for families
BC Medical Insurance: $54 per month for singles, $96 per month for couples, $108 per month for family of 3 or more
Car Insurance: $800–$1500 per year
Parking at UBC Parkade (no parking available at VST): $12/day, $4 flat evening rate (after 5pm)
Study Permit (for non-Canadians): $125 per Permit
Work Permit (for spouse of non-Canadians): $150 per Permit
Miscellaneous $200 per month
Startup Costs: Budget at least $500 extra

It is wise to budget more money for the first month to cover any potential unexpected costs. For example, some families end up paying for temporary accommodation, renting a car to look for permanent housing, buying furniture, etc.

Health Insurance

Students must show upon registration that adequate hospital and medical insurance has been obtained. Students not already covered, or students from outside British Columbia, should obtain information from the BC Medical Services Plan office.
