Diploma and Degree Programs
Vancouver School of Theology seeks students eager to passionately and critically engage texts, traditions, and the contemporary theological, social, and political landscape.
Theological Foundations of the Curriculum
- To empower pastoral and public leaders to be faithful interpreters of the Gospel
- To equip pastoral and public leaders to interpret, communicate and live the Gospel as faithful disciples in the contexts in which they live
- To develop skills in critical interpretation for imaginative engagement with the people and contexts in which we serve
- To undertake theological education at the interface of faith and culture for the sake of Jesus Christ’s mission in and for the world
Goals of the Curriculum
- To prepare people for public and pastoral ministries in the church and for the world
- To cultivate awareness of the breadth of Christian tradition and its resources for forming faithful disciples for the 21st century
- To wrestle with questions of Christian identity in a post-Christendom world
- To deepen and strengthen both public and pastoral ministries by providing educational opportunities to explore emerging questions
- To continue to develop the degree program for ordered ministry in First Nations communities
- To provide a multi-denominational and ecumenical forum for theological, interfaith, and ethical exploration and reflection
- To provide resources for advanced research in theology and ministry
- To ground Master of Divinity program students in the ethos, polity and spiritual disciplines of the participating and associated denominations.
Features of the Curriculum
- An initial group of Core Courses that provide an opportunity to explore roots of Christian tradition and to reflect on Christian identity and vocation in contemporary contexts
- An opportunity to continue studies in theology, building upon the Core Courses to achieve completion in a diploma or degree program
- An opportunity to study theology in an inter-disciplinary context
- Small class size and high quality faculty who are committed to caring for the individual learning needs of students
- Flexibility in program design allowing students optimum adult education opportunities
